LA Bloom @ Japanese American Cultural and Community Center – 5 pm/FREE

Leading landscape architects, ikebana masters, floral designers and performing artists will transform the entire JACCC campus into an “ecoartspace” urban oasis that will refresh, inspire and soothe the soul.  Imagine a large zen garden adorning the plaza.  This nine-day celebration begins with an Opening Night Gala Performance entitled Mare Nubium and VIP Reception on Friday, April 27 and ends with Family Day on Saturday, May 5th.   The opening night performance will feature a contemporary plaza installation and a performance by butoh dancer Oguri and produced by Hirokazu Kosaka who was recently produced the opening performance at the Getty to celebrate PST.  Kosaka is known for his large-scale performances often transforming public spaces into sculptural and performative visual art.  His work has been performed at the Getty, MOCA, the Seattle Art Museum the Indianapolis Art Museum and other venues.

The LA Bloom festival will be cool and unlike anything else in Los Angeles!  The amazing “ecoartspace” that will be installed and many of the events/activities are free and open to the public.  Opening night and certain other performances are ticketed events.  Experience an evening visual performance at Mare Nubium, attend a taiko performance, a Veranda Series lecture, a dance performance or two, enjoy the Tuesday Night Café, Happy Hour Wednesday, or Jazz Night Thursday, come see the Japanese Court Musicians and Dancers, have fun at Family Day, and the see the Pacifico Dance Company perform.
